Fort Myers is a Top Travel Destination in a Down Ecomomy

The Associated Press reports that in January 2009, travelers are starting to flock towards smaller U.S. cities.  According to a study of American Express Travel bookings, one of the top destinations during the current economic downturn is Fort Myers, Florida.

Fort Myers is known for its beaches and its proximity to golf courses. The Fort Myers area includes other top travel destinations such as Sanibel Island and Bonita Springs. Currently, Ft. Myers is also a hot spot for Major League Baseball Spring Training as it is the spring home for the Minnesota Twins and the Boston Red Sox.
